Andrea Peterson (She/Her)

Andrea creates paintings suggestive of dreams and the abstract reality woven within them.
Raised along the East Coast, she graduated from East Carolina University in North Carolina, U.S. with a concentration in Illustration. The next several years brought her to Washington, D.C. and then New York, NY where she pursued her passion for painting, before the lure of the desert brought her to Arizona. The Southwest swiftly became the home-base for Andrea’s fantastical creations, as she finds infinite inspiration within the exotic landscape where desert and mountains merge.
Patterns, portraits, and figures are frequently the focal point within my
paintings, woven together as an indescribable narrative. While considered an idiosyncratic surrealist, my work is constantly evolving within a broad stylistic spectrum.  My paintings evoke dream-like enchantment and the sense of constant evolution.... as Picasso once said, “I paint as I breathe.”

Artist Statement:

“I create imaginative figure and animal paintings inspired by nature and emotion. My latest prism paintings take everyday scenes and subject matter and applies a contemporary cubist-like style to them. The idea one day arose from noticing my paintings leaning behind a large piece of stained glass (creating stained glass was a favorite hobby of my grandfather). Applying this prism style to my oil paintings in triangular patches of color creates a kaleidoscope-type image, where the viewer experiences a captured moment in time.  My most recent paintings include an abundance of bursting florals and butterflies, inspired by the old Dutch Masters, and abstractly referencing themes of awakenings, seasonal metamorphosis and the beauty of the world." - Andrea Peterson
