Artist Statement

“My name is Coulter (Colt) Prehm. I was born in 1984 and I am a painter, draftsman, tattooist residing in Santa Fe, NM. I’m here with my wife, Liz, and I have a son, Joseph, who is 18.

After graduating from Iowa State University Liz and I moved to Santa Fe in order to study with Tony Ryder at the Ryder Studio School (http://www.theryderstudio.com/). Tony is a true master painter and is a dear friend and mentor. I spent several years full-time under Tony’s tutelage, including time participating as a teaching assistant at the school. I finished my formal studies in 2011.

I’m currently creating paintings, drawings and tattoos in my private studio here in Santa Fe. Additionally, I love teaching and conduct workshops and demonstrations regularly.

Liz and I love to travel, drink wine, and spend time with those we love. Fitness and nutrition are passions that we share as well. Lastly, I’m an avid rock climber and have been devoted to climbing and developing new routes for the past 15 years. I spend as much time climbing as I do any other pursuit in my life.

I believe that love, adventure, and excellence are attributes of a life well lived.” - Coulter Prehm
