Santa Fe curator and creative director Bobby Beals presents The Return, a deeply personal new body of paintings opening August 14 at Bishop’s Lodge.
August 14th marks the 25th anniversary of Beals known for championing artists through exhibitions, strategic consulting, and curated programming across New Mexico and beyond. Through Bobby Beals Presents…, he has built platforms for painters, photographers, ceramicists, and multidisciplinary artists to share their work within thoughtful, elevated environments.
With The Return, Beals turns inward; not away from that work, but alongside it.
This exhibition marks a renewed commitment to his own studio practice. Created in a newly established Santa Fe loft studio, the paintings reflect a quiet re-entry into authorship, into the discipline of beginning and completing a body of work from start to finish.
Cloudscapes, expansive sunsets, horses in motion, and solitary figures move across the canvases as meditations on light, presence, and emotional weather. Rooted in the vast skies and layered landscapes of the American West, the works are less about spectacle and more about stillness; about returning to a creative voice that has always existed beneath the surface.
“The Return is not a departure from what I’ve been building,” Beals says. “It’s a remembering. Supporting other artists has been one of the great honors of my life. This exhibition simply brings me back to my own canvas, to the part of me that first fell in love with making.”
Programming through Bobby Beals Presents… will continue, with upcoming exhibitions featuring regional and national artists throughout the year. The Return stands as a parallel chapter, a personal season of painting that complements his ongoing curatorial work.
Collectors and patrons will have early access to the exhibition prior to the public reception on August 14. The exhibition will remain on view at Bishop’s Lodge following the opening.
This show is free and open to the public. The show will be installed in The Horseshoe Gallery on Thursday, August 13, 2026 and de-installed by Monday August 17, 2026 with hours of operation to be 12pm - 5pm Thursday, August 13, 2026 through Sunday, August 16, 2026 with an opening reception Friday, August 14, 2026.
