Bobby Beals Presents… The Soul Artifacts featuring beadworker and painter, Matt Campos
Venue: The Horseshoe Gallery
Date: September 4, 2026
Time: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
An art show featuring the fine work and curation of Matt Campos. Santa Fe based artist, Campos provides an insight to a nearby world.
Discovered in extreme isolation, an abandoned stone hut stood embedded within a steep cliff face, miles from any road or neighboring settlement. Rather than appearing constructed, the structure seemed to emerge from the geology itself. Faint footholds carved into the rock suggested a deliberate yet precarious passage inward. The entrance, more seal than door, implied protection, concealment, separation from the outside world.
Inside, the space remained intact and uncannily ordered. No dust marked the passage of time; no personal narrative was revealed. Instead, presence was inferred through objects left behind.
The Soul Artifacts is presented as an anthropological installation rather than a traditional exhibition. Leatherwork, wood carving, basketry, and illustration function as cultural evidence - material traces through which the viewers are invited to reconstruct the life, practices, and inner landscape of an unknown inhabitant. The works resist explanation, positioning the audience as observer, interpreter, ethnographer.
This show is free and open to the public. The show will be installed in The Horseshoe Gallery on Thursday, September 3, 2026 and de-installed by Monday September 7, 2026 with hours of operation to be 12pm - 5pm Thursday, September 3, 2026 through Sunday, September 6, 2026 with an opening reception Friday, September 4, 2026.
